Finding the perfect location
When choosing the perfect location for your photoshoot there are several factors to consider, lighting, obstacles, and weather.
Lighting: This can be one of the biggest challenges when planning a photoshoot. Lighting conditions such as, the time of day, the setting (indoor or outdoor), and the direction of the sun. Depending on the lighting conditions it will influence the equipment photographers will have to bring, which is something to discuss with your photographer ahead of time.
Obstacles: Try and find a location that is less busy at the time of the shoot. Try to avoid crowded locations. People are the most common obstacles. Obstacles can be anything that can get in the way of your image such as people, animals, and vehicles. Fewer obstacles in the original image will overall help the photoshoot run smoother. The image above was taken on a very busy boardwalk, we had to wait until it was clear to get the perfect shoot. Patience is key in this scenario.
Weather: While the weather can help certain images, it can also be a huge downfall. Always make sure that you are checking the weather in advance to plan ahead. There are certain cases that unexpected weather works out, for example for my prom pictures. I was planning for the photoshoot to be on a certain day, but on that day, it was raining. We moved the location to a beautiful park with a pavilion so we could still get the pictures done. We were soaked but got some really fun photos, all while the photographer and the equipment remained dry. For the image above, the clients wanted a beautiful sunset, which is unpredictable. It might take several tries to get the perfect shot. When planning your next photoshoot, keep in mind that the best weather condition for a photoshoot is an overcast day, to prevent squinting and overexposure.
Always be sure to consult your photographer about these factors to ensure that everything has been accounted for and properly planned out.
